Using primary source images I collect in and around Bristol – I created a collage of most key objects/buildings from my photographs. I began by cutting each object/building out from its original image by using the Wand tools within Photoshop, then began placing them into different places. Using the ‘Black & White’ effect in Photoshop and ‘Blending Mode’s in Layers I was able to create the collage to only blue as the main colour. I created these lines going across using another image I took of an orange barrier which I then changed the colour of.

Below is an attached essay of ‘Blondey McCoy’ a popular internet artist who creates collages and I follow on his present journey from his collaborations with Burberry to his own clothing “Thames MMXX”. In this essay I explore his collage work, how it was achieved and the meaning behind these works.

Using many layers of blending layers and masking I was able to create a collage with different photographic elements as well as painting elements to achieve the collage presented above. This collage has many layers which create the sense of painting along with photographic objects to mix these elements to create this collage.
Researching collages

Collecting Resources
Furthermore, I created another album for the abadoned/derelict building -primary source photographs – that I had visited over the years to then use as the background/setting for each collage where I would put the 80s-90s objects into. (There were so many of these primary source images that I could not fit them into this small collage I made below).
First attempt: Swimming Pool
First collage: Living Room
Second collage: Another Living Room
This is by-far my favourite collage I have done so far. The objects used fit very well into the setting. I decided to keep in with the theme of using black and white background of the present derelict building and use colour for the past 80s objects. This is to suggest how the objects – although in the past – are more lively and interesting rather than the present derelict, abandoned room which is slowly decaying. This choice of ‘colour switching’ contrasts with images as images from the past are usually seen as black and white whereas images from the present are seen in colour. Each object was also matched to make sure that it really felt like these objects all belonged in one room.
